The 9th Sino-Danish Autumn School was held at Shexian Hotel in the town of Shexian in Anhui Province, China, from 15th to 17nd October, 2018 – see the attached program. The school was organized by Guosheng Xu (ASIPP - Academy of Science Institute of Plasma Physics, Hefei) and Anders Henry Nielsen (PPFE, DTU Physics) and local organization was handled by Ning Yan (ASIPP, Hefei). The Autumn School was supported by ASIPP-Hefei.

In the welcome address Guosheng Xu  presented a brief overview of successful long pulse plasmas in EAST and the ambitious Chinese road map towards the realization of fusion energy. This includes the Chinese participation in the ITER project and the next generation Chinese based device: Chinese Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) that is presently in the engineering design phase.

In total 100 students registered for the School, including two DTU Physics PhD students, Birgitte Madsen and Aslak Poulsen, from PPFE.  The Chinese participants came from 15 Universities and Institutes in China:

They had the opportunity to get first-class lectures by leading experts in the fields, giving insight into basic issues as well as actual unsolved problems in fusion plasma physics. The lecturers from PPFE, Jens Juul Rasmussen and Anders Henry Nielsen, together with  Michael Faisch from IPP-Garching, Gemany, were complemented by nine Chinese lecturers from elite universities and research centres. The topics stretched from advanced materials for fusion reactors to stability of tokamak plasmas, from plasma turbulence to heating mechanisms and diagnostics. There was allocated ample time in the program for discussions in plenum and also individual discussions with students on particular items. The students were both interested and active during the autumn school. Tuesday afternoon was dedicated to a poster session, where the students presented their results and ongoing research.

In the week before the autumn school, Jens Juul Rasmussen and Anders Henry Nielsen visited ASIPP Hefei for ongoing collaboration with the group on edge and Scrape-off Layer physics, headed by Guosheng Xu. The collaboration includes our former common PhD student, Ning Yan, and Xiang Liu, a common EU CN financed PhD student presently at PPFE.
