DTU Physics is offering a two-year position as postdoc in the Section of Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE) at the Department of Physics, Technical University of Denmark.

You will take part in the research in the section for Fusion and Plasma Physics, encompassing activities in plasma turbulence and dynamics of non-thermal and thermal ions in magnetically confined plasmas.

Responsibilities and tasks
Your research will be within the activities on the determination of thermal and non-thermal ion properties in magnetically confined hot plasmas – specifically tokamak plasmas - by applying the Collective Thomson Scattering diagnostics (CTS).

This includes: 

  • Development of and participation in experiments
  • Data analysis
  • Modelling of microwave propagation and scattering
  • Validating data to simulations and other measurements
  • Participate in the continued development of the CTS diagnostic systems
The experimental activities are performed at European fusion research laboratories involving extensive international collaboration.

Participation in supervision of students from the bachelor to PhD level may be an integrated part of the job.

Your place of employment will be DTU Physics in Denmark. Travel activity is expected.

Qualifications
Candidates should have: 
  • A PhD degree in Physics or equivalent
  • A goal-oriented approach
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Strong communication skills in English – both oral and written
  • Experience with plasma physics, plasma diagnostics, and microwave equipment are not a prerequisite but preferred.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment will be for 24 month. Employment may start at 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The workplace is the Department of Physics at DTU Lyngby Campus.
