DTU Physics invites applications for 2-year Postdoc positions starting 1 September 2018.

The postdoc will be working on the ORR sub-project within SurfCat for the conversion of hydrogen back to power in a PEMFC. The work will be based on strong interaction with the theory group headed by Professor Jens Nørskov, which is screening for new materials using DFT calculations for determining optimal catalysts. In this scheme, the best candidates are identified towards activity, selectivity, stability, and not the least scalability.

This project aims specifically at synthesizing these best candidates and characterizing them to see that the actual candidates have been realized and following test them for ORR. The synthesis can be both wet-chemical synthesis or sputter deposition methods. The initial testing is in a RDE setup and if promising scale-up testing can also be realized. The characterization involves basic electrochemical characterization like CV, CO stripping, impedance measurements, supplemented by materials characterization methods such as XRD, TEM, BET and surface characterization like XPS and ISS. All methods available in the SurfCat group.

The successful candidate is well-motivated, hardworking and willing and able to work as part of a team. The candidate should have a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science. A significant part of V-SUSTAIN takes place at the section for Surface Science and Catalysis (SurfCat) at the Department of Physics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). It is mandatory that the candidate has an electrochemical background and extensive experience with synthesis and testing of catalysts preferable in relation to ORR. The candidates must also beyond electrochemical characterization have extensive experience with the characterization methods mentioned above such as XRD, TEM, XPS.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.
