In this setup, single cell Proton Exchange Membranes (PEM) can be tested under various gas compositions and pressures. The systems are tested using a 16 channel PAR VMP2 potentiostat with power boosters and programs for standard electrochemical methods, such as voltammetry and impedance measurements.

This system is used to evaluate new electrocatalyst in a real fuel cell environment. The research program is mainly focused on replacing the expensive noble metals as electrocatalyst both for the anode and the cathode. Also materials for hydrogen evolution are under consideration.

The laboratory also includes a PAR 2273 potentiostat which is primarily used for testing electrocatalysts for the Direct Methanol Fuel Cell.
