Surface Physics and Catalysis (SURFCAT) –  The main objective of SurfCat is to investigate the fundamental relation of surfaces reactivity and activity with the perspective of developing new and more efficient catalysts.

Catalysis Theory Center (CATTHEORY) – We will develop further the theory of heterogeneous catalysis and electro-catalysis. This includes development of a fundamental understanding of chemical processes at the gas-solid and liquid-solid interface as well as chemical conversion processes with special emphasis on sustainable production of fuels and chemicals.

Computational Atomic-scale Materials Design (CAMD) – We have expertise in computer simulations of the chemical, mechanical and electronic properties of materials. Our research is all about bridging the gap between the fundamental atomic description of various materials and their practical applications.

Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE) – We are researching in the development of fusion energy as a sustainable and environmentally safe energy source. Our main research activities deal with physical and technical aspects of plasmas. Particular emphasis is on plasma turbulence, the associated transport, and fast ion dynamics.

Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) – Our mission is to understand, to engineer and to control complex quantum systems of light and matter, and to exploit these systems for quantum information processing and quantum sensing.

Neutron and X-rays for materials physics (NEXMAP) – We are researching the structure and dynamics of materials using large scale facilities for neutrons and x-radiation. Together with advanced modeling and analysis methods, this opens unique possibilities for establishing links between the structure, dynamics and functioning of materials.

At Radiation Physics (RADPHYS), we undertake research and development in radiation and charge transport with application to nuclear energy, materials and earth science.
