Mads Brandbyge

The research in my group is working mainly on theory and computer simulation of electronics based on nano-structures such as molecular nano-junctions, nanowires, nanotubes, graphene and other two-dimensional materials. The focus is on calculations of electron and heat transport, electron-phonon interaction, and current-induced atomic effects. We develop and use computational methods and software, mainly based on non-equilibrium Greens functions(NEGF) and density functional theory(DFT). With these methods it is possible to predict properties with no or few fitting-parameters.

The Theoretical NanoElectronics group is closely connected to the Theoretical Nanotechnology group and part of the center for nanostructured graphene (CNG). We work on common projects, have group meetings together and combine our research and teaching efforts.

Research

Current topics of interest include:

  • Molecular electronics.
  • Combined electron and heat transport of semi-conducting nanosystems.
  • Nanoelectronics of carbon based systems (eg. graphene antidot lattices, carbon chains, carbon nanotube devices).
  • Electron-phonon interactions, inelastic transport, and heating in atomic-scale conductors.
  • Predicting the stability of molecular conductors in the precense of current.
