As a result of recently funded projects, our research group is looking to fill 9 positions. The goal is to develop fast, cheap, environmentally friendly ways to mineralise CO2, to convert it back to solid, where it will remain stable for millennia. Even with the very best alternative energy sources and conversion of CO2 into products, current air and ocean CO2 levels will need 1,000 to 10,000 years to return to preindustrial levels. To reduce climate change and ocean acidification, CO2 must be put back into the Earth, where it came from in the first place.

At DTU Physics, we are running several projects in parallel, that range from very fundamental investigations of mineral-water-gas properties, through developing predictive models and new experimental methods and instrumentation, to applying research results and building industrial CO2 trapping processes. The need is urgent, the task is challenging and a multidisciplinary approach is essential - so we are looking for highly motivated group members, including physicists, chemists, nanoscientists, mineralogists, geoscientists, engineers and others. We welcome group members at all levels, from young bachelor students to experienced scientists and engineers. 

The job
An essential part of the team is a Chemical Engineer to help develop the process, who can also serve as our Technical Coordinator. Your overall responsibility is to help the group leader run the group, to be flexible, to see what is needed and find the way to get it done.

Your main tasks are to:

  • keep contact with the group members and help them solve problems
  • take part in the research, especially in the chemical engineering aspects
  • help teach the analytical techniques to the students
  • take responsibility for the labs and equipment, ordering, operation and function, and keep good contact with the instrument vendors
  • work with the project administrator, to keep an eye on the budgets of the various projects, to be sure the expenditures match the grants.
  • communicate and network with the technical people in other sections and departments
  • other tasks, as needed

Our expectations of you
We are looking for a colleague who sees the fun in solving problems and working together to meet the projects’ goals. We expect you to have:

  • a solid background in chemical engineering
  • a PhD or similar
  • technical expertise and joy in fixing things
  • leadership skills
  • communication and personal interaction skills
  • and to be completely fluent in Danish and English

Flexibility is essential. An existing technical network is an advantage. We are looking for a team player who can also work independently, who is motivated to help make, and be part of, a dynamic research environment and who has a positive, flexible and creative outlook.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.

It is a full time position for 6 years, starting as soon as possible.

The workplace is the DTU Lyngby Campus.
