Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE)
Our mission is to bring fusion power, a viable and sustainable way to produce energy, to the grid. We deliver a high-quality, coherent, and effective Danish contribution to the international fusion programme, in accordance with the European Roadmap. We also promote fusion energy through teaching, outreach, and dissemination to the public and stakeholders.

NORTH Tokamak and Plasma lab
The PPFE plasma laboratory hosts our own tokamak, NORTH, along with other experiments for research and student projects involving magnetically or electrically confined laboratory plasmas.
NORTH Tokamak and Plasma lab
Turbulence & Transport
We perform numerical studies of turbulence and transport in plasmas, which are main players in defining the confinement properties of fusion plasma devices.

ITER and DEMO
The CTS group has delivered a design for a CTS diagnostic system for ITER – the largest fusion experiment in the world – and is working on a CTS design for the future DEMO fusion reactor.

Plasma-wave Interactions
Using experiments and simulations, we study the interaction between magnetized plasmas and powerful microwaves used for plasma heating.

CTS Asdex Upgrade
PPFE is responsible for the Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) diagnostic at ASDEX Upgrade in Munich, which is used for studies of fast-ion interactions with the plasma.

Fast-ion Physics and Tomography
We develop and apply tomographic methods for mapping the dynamics of energetic particles in magnetized fusion plasmas.
