On October 5, Angelo defended his PhD thesis entitled “Feedback cooling of a mechanical resonator from room temperature close to its ground state” within the bigQ project supported by the Danish National Research Foundation. During his PhD project, Angelo has developed a system for cooling a high quality mechanical membrane by means of radiation pressure force, aiming at reaching the quantum ground state of the oscillator. The thesis was examined by Hendrik Ulbricht from the University of Southhampton, Nicola Malossi, University of Camerino and Alexander Huck from DTU. Many congrats to Angelo!
