Luminescence physics

The Luminescence Physics Section carries out research aimed at developing methods and instruments for retrospective dosimetry with applications in geo- and archeo-chronology and radiation protection.

Research in luminescence physics aims at understanding the dynamics of long-lived metastable states produced by  the interaction of ionising  radiation with crystals. We develop novel methods, models and instrumentation for applications in dosimetry, geochronology and archaeochronology. We collaborate with geoscientists and archaeologists to establish robust chronologies for the Quaternary period.
